Vancouver Island University (VIU) is a dynamic institution, home of the award winning Deep Bay Marine Field Station and Milner Garden and Woodlands. VIU is an internationally known university supporting a student population in excess of 18,000 full-time and part-time learners, dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning, service and research. VIU is primarily an undergraduate teaching institution with a mandate for VIU to undertake applied research that meets the needs and priorities of the region. The Community Based Research Institute facilitates innovative research and engagement initiatives with VIU and community partners from all sectors. The CBRI supports projects that provide experiential learning opportunities for students and that lead to community well-being and social change.
