Tanis Dagert

Tanis Dagert is a community development practitioner and educator with a Masters of Education focused on community/rural education, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Asia Pacific Studies and a B.A. in Communications & Kinesiology. She also has a variety of certificates related to non-profit management, human rights and public policy. She currently works as a Community Liaison Officer with Vancouver Island University.

For the past 15 years Tanis has worked in a variety of community/ population-health related positions on Vancouver Island including:



  • as the lead for a Health Canada diabetes prevention initiative in Nanaimo called ‘Living Well’, while serving as the Executive Director of Nanaimo Foodshare Society;

  • as a Community Capacity Facilitator with the BC Healthy Living Alliance, where she helped to support the development of the Vancouver Island Community Research Alliance;

  • as the lead of a community based research team for a project called ‘Digital Harvest’ on behalf of Health Canada and SnaNawas First Nations.

  • as the Coordinator of the Alberni Clayoquot Health Network where she wrote a strategic plan focused on addressing the social determinants of health.


Her background also includes positions in continuing education at SFU, VIU and BCEd-Online; as a research coordinator with two SFU research Centres (the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform & Criminal Justice Policy and the Feminist Research, Education and Action Centre); and a 2-year stint with CUSO as a volunteer coordinator in Indonesia.
